It’s that time of year again, when your family all comes together and eats an unhealthy amount of food and watches football, but most of you have probably been yelled by your mother’s uncle’s step-brother’s-grandma that you have the worst etiquette of all time. To help you avoid that this year, I will give you the top five best etiquette tips for Thanksgiving.
- Laying back in your seat: After you have gathered all of the food you will be eating or just relaxing to talk with family, you should lay back instead of sitting up. This is because this shows you are a very chill guy. Sitting up shows that you are uptight and nervous, but if you start laying so far back that you start to fall off your chair, this shows your family that you are very relaxed in their presence. Just don’t fall off because that would be disrespectful.
- Putting your feet up on the table: Coming back to what I said in the first tip, putting your feet up on the table also shows how relaxed you are. It shows that you feel like you are at home and you are comfortable with taking your shoes off in front of them. When putting your feet up, make sure that you avoid putting your feet in the food, not because it’s disrespectful, but because it’s just plain nasty.
- Looking at your phone: You might have heard that looking at your phone while you are at the dinner table is disrespectful, but this can’t be farther from the truth. Looking at your phone shows that you need a small break so you can savor/spend more time later hanging out with your family. If you do this, people will leave you alone for a bit but remember to come back and hang out with them more later.
- Eating with your mouth open (smacking): When you eat with your mouth closed, it shows that you do not want people to know that you are eating their food and you’re trying to do it as quietly as possible. When eating with your mouth open/when you smack you loudly, it shows that you are enjoying the food that you are eating. If people are doubting that you are actually eating your food, they can just look at your mouth.
- Talking about politics at the table: Every show in existence says that you should never talk about politics during Thanksgiving because it will break out in a massive fight, but this is a society of sophisticated men. When you mention politics at the table, you will have a lovely conversation with your family and it will be calm and collected. I recommended you do this, so you know your family little better.
