People going through Valentine’s could be single, in a talking stage, a dreaded situationship, or even an actual relationship, but some are questioning if they should break it off. There are plenty of reasons to break it off with someone (some more valid than others) like….
1.Your friends all hate them:
If all your friends hate your significant other and you see nothing wrong with them, then something is off. Either there is something off with your friends, or something is off with your partner. There is no in between.
2. A Disrespectful Family:
If their family consistently disrespects you, especially to your face, and your partner doesn’t defend you, then it may be time to break it off.
3. An Inconsiderate Partner:
It’s different if you’re just joking around; that’s perfectly normal, but if they are constantly harping on you then it could be an issue. Really, it just depends on how you two interact, but if they hurt your feelings and you communicate that and they just don’t care, then they do not respect you or your feelings.
4.You aren’t compatible, and want fundamentally different things for the future:
We’re in high school, so people and the ideas of what they want in life will change, but as people grow, it is important to make sure your partner’s wants and needs align with your own if you want a future together.
In the end, you do not always need a big reason to break up with someone. Sometimes people just aren’t feeling it anymore, and that’s perfectly fine and normal. Even if your partner is perfect and a great person overall, if you aren’t feeling it anymore, it could be time to break it off from no fault of either party. There is no shame in breaking up with someone as long as you’re nice about it, even though it can be difficult.
